1864 |
Elmira chartered as a city on April 7th. First Elmira Council meeting held April 19th. Rosenbaum store opened. Grace Episcopal Church established. |
1865 |
St. Patricks Day flood. Main Street and Lake Street bridges lost. Confederate prisoners released from prison in June. |
1870 |
Lehigh Valley rail lines extended to Elmira. Olivia Langdon married to Samuel L. Clemens (Mark Twain) on January 2nd. |
1871 |
First trip of horse-drawn trolley car on tracks of Elmira & Horseheads Railway Co., August 23rd. |
1872 |
H. Strauss clothing store opened for business. |
